Directions:

The Special Collections Library is the Pueblo-style building at the northwest corner of Edith Blvd. and Central Avenue.

Parking:

On-street parking in the neighborhood is by permit only between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Limited parking is available along Edith. Library customers are advised to pay close attention to parking signs and curb markings.

By Car:

Freeway Directions:
Take Interstate 25 to the Martin Luther King Jr Drive exit. Go west on MLK towards downtown. The first traffic signal past the Albuquerque Regional Medical Center (formerly St Joseph's Hospital) is Edith Blvd. Turn left onto Edith and go south two blocks.

Surface Street Directions:

Take Central Avenue to Edith Blvd NE. There is a traffic signal at the intersection. Parking is available along Edith and on other residental streets in the neighborhood.

 

Update (posted March 28, 2012)

The fence is down, and major construction work is complete. We are on track to begin moving collections and restocking the shelves in mid-April to prepare for a spring opening. Centennial lectures continue in Botts Hall as scheduled.
     

    About the Special Collections Library

    While Special Collections is closed for renovations, much of the collection is located on the second floor of the Main Library, Special Collections and Local History Library501 Copper Ave NW.

    The Special Collections Library of the Albuquerque/Bernalillo County Libraries houses research collections on genealogy and New Mexico history and culture. The 1925 Pueblo/Spanish Revival-style building is a registered Albuquerque landmark in the historic Huning-Highlands neighborhood. As a research library, materials are available for in-house use only. Photocopiers are available. Parking is available on Edith and other residential streets.

     

    New Mexico Collection Highlights

    The New Mexico Collection features nine thousand books on New Mexico history and culture, with an emphasis on the Albuquerque area. Supplementary resources include over 200 regional periodicals (current and defunct), a complete set of topographical maps for the state, other historic maps, City of Albuquerque documents, pamphlets, postcards, and biographical information. Special files include archival materials on Ernie Pyle and Professor Dorothy Cline, and a centennial history of the Albuquerque Public Library. Periodic exhibits feature local history materials from our collection and from other sources.
